Daily Discussions on Dwight D. Eisenhower Autographs| Yet another broken promise as Obama gives no-bid contract to campaign donor | | Yup, a $25 million dollar contract has just been given to a big campaign donor for democrats. Now with all the broken promises I'm sure many of you have forgotten this one. Obama promised many times to end no-bid contracts like what happened with Halliburton. Does this bother any of his supporters here? I remember hearing his supporters time and time again complain about the no-bid contracts for Halliburton under Bush. Is it okay now that a democrat is doing it? "I will finally end the abuse of no-bid contracts once and for all," the senator told a Grand Rapids audience on Oct. 2. "The days of sweetheart deals for Halliburton will be over when I'm in the White House." "If (the American people) see a bridge to nowhere being built, they know where it's going and who sponsored it," he said to audience laughter, "and if they see a no-bid contract going to Halliburton, they can check that out too." Less than two months after he was sworn into office, President Obama signed a memorandum that he claimed would "dramatically reform the way we do business on contracts across the entire government." Flanked by aides and lawmakers at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Executive...

"This is not a way of life at all, not in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron."- President Dwight D. Eisenhower, April 16th 1953There will be many of you out there who are old enough to remember these words when they were first spoken. Half a century later, and has America learned from the words of it's former president; a soldier who hated war? No it has not. America is pouring money into a military black hole, with a proposed defense budget for 2011 of $708 billion, while it's citizens lie bleeding; no health insurance, no jobs, no hope and no change. And what will be the long-term consequences of this? Who knows, but let this link lead you, as Scrooge was led by the ghost of Christmas, to a vision of a possible future. The choice is yours America: http://www.commondreams.org/view/2010/01/20-13eck that out too." | | Socialism Or Something Else? | | Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating communal ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and a society characterized by equal opportunities for all individuals, with a fair or egalitarian method of compensation. The only socialist communities are religiously based. In practice, both Soviet and Chinese Communism were captive states which were neither communistic nor capitalistic. What is occurring in America has nothing to do with socialism, it’s anti-capitalism. Anti-capitalism describes a wide variety of movements, ideas, and attitudes which oppose capitalism. A major anti-capitalism movement is fascism which is characterized by a corporatist approach to economics – the elimination of the autonomy of large-scale capitalism and private ownership of major industry and the subordination of the economy to the needs of the state while preserving private property. Fascism upholds the private ownership aspect of productive capital and the means of production, but “regulated to ensure that benefit to the community precedes benefit to the individual.” As Hitler explained in Mein Kampf, "the...

| | President Obama: this is my hope, this is my prayer | | President Obama delivered a stirring speech at the National Prayer Breakfast at the Washington Hilton in the nation's capital."The particular faith that motivates each of us can promote a greater good for all of us. Instead of driving us apart, our varied beliefs can bring us together to feed the hungry and comfort the afflicted; to make peace where there is strife and rebuild what has broken; to lift up those who have fallen on hard times." A dozen foreign leaders attended, including former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who delivered the keynote address. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson (R-MO) and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) read from scripture, Rep. Ike Skelton (D-MO) delivered a prayer for national leaders, Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) delivered a prayer for world leaders, and Rep. | | Prs. & First Lady Obama attend 10 Balls in His Honor... But... | | The Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball began with the Inaugural Ball for Prs. Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953. The purpose of the ball is to honor the recipients of the Medal of Honor (The highest award the US Government issues). 48 of the 99 living Medal of Honor recipients were in attendance, as was VP Joe Biden. This was the first Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball that hasn't been attended by the new president since its inception. Apparently the explanation for missing this ball had something to do with the "unprecedented logistical challenges presented by the vastly increased number of visitors to this inauguration and the necessary attendant security measures."I guess having Beyonce, Wonder, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Faith Hill, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Adam Levine, Sting, Mariah Carey and Leonardo DiCaprio honor him is more important to Prs. Obama than honoring the people who not only went above and beyond the call of duty enough to be put in for the Medal of Honor, but lived to recieve the honor. In fairness, Prs. Obama did attend the Commander-In-Chief Ball, where he did give a speech that included, ""It is wonderful to be surrounded by some of the very best and bravest... | |
| | War or Peace? | | I have just finished reading a "unique book by a unique woman." (Library Journal) The book was written by Peace Pilgrim: HER LIFE AND WORK IN HER OWN WORDS. It's very interesting, try to get hold of a copy. Here are a number of quotes in that book:General Omar Bradley: "Wars can be prevented just as surely as they can be provoked, and we who fail to prevent them must share in the guilt for the dead."General Douglas MacArthur: "I have known war as few men now living know it. Its very destructiveness on both friend and foe has rendered it useless as a means of settling international disputes."Pope John XXIII: "If civil authorities legislate for or allow anything that is contrary to the will of God, neither the laws made nor the authorizations granted can be binding on the consciences of the citizens, since God has more right to be obeyed than men."Dwight D. Eisenhower: "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who are hungry and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."John F. Kennedy: "Mankind must put an end to war, or war will put an end to mankind... War will exist until... | |
